How to Choose a Face Painter
It’s important to know what products and routines your face painter is using so you can trust the safety of their work. Making people look and feel amazing is just part of the job! We also have to make sure we keep you, your kids and your guests safe!
Face paints must be professional grade, hypoallergenic; sourced from professional manufacturers and suppliers. There are many paints available which mimic professional paints but are not in compliance with international standards for cosmetics. They can contain dangerous preservative chemicals and even heavy metals!
Then there are acrylic craft paints meant for wood, ceramic and plastics. These may say non-toxic but that only means that if you swallow them when dried, they will not poison you. It has nothing to do with safety for the skin! Especially because it’s applied when wet. Please do not risk your, your child or your guest’s skin with non-cosmetic, non-professional products. Possible reactions can include irritation, sores, allergic reactions and even anaphylaxis! Do not hire a painter who uses non-professional, or worse, craft paints!
At Brushes n Bling Face Painting we use 100% professional-grade face paints from quality manufacturers and suppliers. Ingredients used have the lowest chance of causing a reaction, as hypoallergenic as possible.
Glitters must be all professional and cosmetic grade too. Did you know there is a difference? I didn’t it until I became a face painter! Craft glitter has sharp edges which can irritate or even cut the skin. Cosmetic glitters are manufactured with softer edges to prevent skin injury and are safer if they accidentally get in the eye from rubbing while wearing.
Brushes n Bling Face Painting uses 100% safe, cosmetic glitter. Whether loose, in a balm or gel, it’s all safe for skin.
Hygiene is extremely important for a professional face painter too! No one wants face painting to cause them to contract an illness. Dirty brushes can carry germs from one child to another. Putting a used brush, tool or sponge into paint used over and over means germs are transmitted to every child on whom the paint is then used! Used sponges can be a Petri dish of germs as they are porous and difficult to fully clean. Some painters even use their fingers to apply glitter!
At Brushes n Bling Face Painting, brushes are cleaned to remove paint and germs with soapy water, then cleaned again in a second container of soapy water and are then rinsed. Reusable non-porous items like glitter spatulas are cleaned in the same way or are cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. Lipstick and glitter tattoo applicators are disposable after one use on one person. Our sponges are used once then put in the laundry with laundry disinfectant, soaked for 16 minutes as per manufacturer’s directions, then washed. WE DO NOT DOUBLE DIP. Once a brush, tool or sponge is used, it is never returned to the paint or glitter container, thus preventing cross-contamination between guests. If we need more paint or glitter, we grab a fresh tool, brush or sponge! We keep our work spaces clean and neat, constantly cleaning with wipes, alcohol if needed, and cleaning hands with hand sanitizer!
Choose a face paint company which follows a strict hygiene routine and uses professional products!
